Enhanced AI Music Creation for Google Workspace: Vids and Gemini Updates

Google Workspace continues to evolve with significant artificial intelligence enhancements, bringing sophisticated creative tools directly into widely used applications. Two recent updates focus on advanced music generation, powered by Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro, Google's latest music generation models. These innovations empower users to create bespoke audio content for their projects, streamlining workflows and offering new avenues for expression.

Custom Music Generation Now Available in Google Vids

Video creation within organisations often requires tailored audio to match specific branding, messages, or moods. Google Vids now addresses this need by integrating custom music generation, leveraging the power of Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro. This feature allows users to generate unique music tracks through simple text-based prompts.

Users can specify their requirements, such as an "upbeat, high-tempo track featuring pop-style lyrics for a product pitch," and the system will produce an appropriate audio file. This eliminates the time-consuming process of searching for stock music or commissioning bespoke compositions. The generated tracks can range from short clips of approximately 30 seconds to longer pieces extending up to three minutes.

This capability is particularly beneficial for creating internal communication videos, product announcements, or marketing content where brand consistency and a specific tone are paramount. By generating highly relevant music directly within Google Vids, organisations can ensure their video projects maintain a cohesive and professional audio identity.

For Google Workspace Administrators, music generation in Vids is enabled by default across the domain. Should there be a need to manage this feature, it can be disabled directly within the Admin Console. The rollout for this update commenced on March 25, 2026, for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.

This functionality is available to various Google Workspace editions, including Business Starter, Standard, and Plus; Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus; Education Plus; Individual; and Nonprofits. Access is also provided via specific AI Add-ons such as AI Ultra Access, AI Expanded Access, Google AI Pro for Education, and the Teaching and Learning add-on. Notably, several of these editions will have promotional access to generative AI features in Vids until at least May 31, 2026.

Creating Longer Musical Tracks in the Gemini App with Lyria 3 Pro

The Gemini app is also receiving a significant upgrade to its music generation capabilities. Following the introduction of 30-second tracks with Lyria 3, the enhanced Lyria 3 Pro now allows users to produce musical tracks up to three minutes in length. This advanced version offers greater creative control and a deeper understanding of musical composition.

With Lyria 3 Pro, users can issue prompts for specific structural elements within a piece of music, such as intros, verses, choruses, and bridges. This granular control makes it an excellent tool for experimenting with diverse musical styles or for adding custom soundtracks to presentations, projects, and various digital assets.

Administrators should note that music generation within the Gemini app is governed by the existing Generative AI settings in the Workspace Admin Console. The ability to create full-length songs with Lyria 3 Pro will be automatically extended to end-users once their domain receives the update. To initiate music creation, users simply need to select "Create music" from the app's tools menu.

This rollout began on March 25, 2026, with a full rollout expected within one to three days for feature visibility across Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.

Availability for this feature spans Business Standard and Plus; Enterprise Standard and Plus; and relevant AI Add-ons, including Google AI Pro for Education, AI Expanded Access, and AI Ultra Access. It is also available to Google AI Pro and Ultra consumer accounts. Lyria 3 Pro music generation in Gemini supports multiple languages globally, including English, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French, for users aged 18 and over.
