Gemini in Google Meet: Enhanced AI Accessibility for Workspace Administrators

Artificial intelligence continues to transform how organisations operate, and Google Workspace is at the forefront of integrating these advanced capabilities into daily workflows. For Google Workspace administrators, keeping abreast of these developments is crucial to ensuring your users can leverage the full potential of these tools while maintaining robust control and security. A significant recent update concerns the expansion of Ask Gemini within Google Meet, making its powerful AI functionalities more widely accessible.

Ask Gemini in Google Meet Expands Availability

The intelligent assistant, Ask Gemini, first introduced to Enterprise customers in Google Meet, is now broadening its reach. This expansion brings the convenience and efficiency of AI-powered meeting summaries and insights to a larger user base, alongside support for more languages and mobile access.

Broader Edition Support

Previously an exclusive feature for Enterprise customers, Ask Gemini in Meet is now becoming available to Workspace Business Standard customers. This means more organisations can benefit from AI assistance during their meetings, helping teams stay organised and informed. Administrators managing Business Standard domains should be aware of this rollout, which began a gradual deployment on 26 January 2026.

Multilingual Capabilities

In a move to support global teams, Ask Gemini in Meet is expanding beyond English to include an additional seven languages. Users will soon be able to utilise the feature in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. It is important to note that the feature currently supports one language at a time within a meeting. This multilingual enhancement, which started its gradual rollout on 2 February 2026, will significantly enhance inclusivity and efficiency for diverse teams.

Mobile Accessibility

Recognising the importance of flexibility, Ask Gemini in Meet is also being made available on the Google Meet mobile application. From 9 February 2026, users will be able to access Gemini's assistance directly from their mobile devices during meetings, tapping the Gemini icon in the top right corner. This ensures that meeting insights and summaries are available regardless of the device being used, catering to hybrid and on-the-go work environments.

Core Functionalities of Ask Gemini in Meet

For administrators new to this feature, Ask Gemini in Meet offers several key benefits to users:

  • Quick Briefs: Users can get an instant summary of meeting goals and topics, ideal for those joining late or needing a quick recap.
  • Key Takeaways: The AI can list important discussion points, decisions made, and action items, helping to ensure accountability and follow-up.
  • Catch-Up: If a user misses part of a meeting, Ask Gemini can provide updates on what transpired, provided the "Take Notes for Me" function was enabled.

Administrator Management and Rollout

For Google Workspace administrators, these new capabilities will be enabled by default for organisations with Ask Gemini in Meet already activated. Administrators retain full control and can adjust the setting to turn Ask Gemini in Meet on or off via the Admin Console. Comprehensive guidance is available in the Help Centre for managing this feature within your domain.

The rollout for these expansions is gradual, ensuring a smooth transition for all users across both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. Administrators should monitor their Google Workspace Release Tracks for specific availability within their organisation.

This expansion of Ask Gemini in Google Meet represents a substantial step forward in integrating intelligent assistance more deeply into Google Workspace, providing valuable tools for improving meeting productivity and information accessibility across your organisation. Administrators are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these updates to effectively support their users and optimise their Workspace environment.
